NIGGG-BAS performs fundamental and applied research in the fields of geophysics, seismology, seismic mechanics, seismic engineering, geodesy and geography. The Institute provides scientific and operational services to the government and the society by providing monitoring and expert information for earthquakes, magnetic fields, air pollution, UV radiation, ozone content for the territory of the whole country. NIGGG-BAS elaborates analyzes and assessments of seismic risk for settlements, buildings and facilities, examines global processes and their regional dimensions, provides models and solutions for optimal use of the country's natural and human capital. This activity is dedicated to the benefit of sustainable knowledge-based social development and contributes to the effective prevention of natural and anthropogenic risks and industrial accidents in Bulgaria.
